City feature: Liverpool '06
The sites first city of the month is Liverpool. It seems fitting since it is the european captial of culture & such a diverse city too. Initially famous for the likes of the cavern club, it's docks, the beatles, & of course being the original home for this morning & the imfamous weather map!
Liverpool has quite a thriving alternative scene, from Quiggins which has been a home to many alternative stores for the past 18 years alongside antiques & even a girl guides shop at one point. As well as shops from Probe records an alternative record store to bad ass boutique.
Liverpool is even home to alot of alternative clubs & nights such as the krazyhouse, midian, shock treatment , the carling academy, the barfly, roadkill bar, the swan & many more.
I took to the streets of Liverpool to document the alternative scene.
Quiggins, School lane.

Quiggins has been home to alot of alternative shops throughout the past 18 years. Giving people in Liverpool & the surrounding areas a place to buy more unique & unusual items.
Nowadays you can find a huge variety of items in Quiggins, from hello kitty merch & kitsch toys to antiques to band t-shirts to retro clothing to gothic clothing to cyber clothing & alot more.
Each shop is unique in it's own way. It's not just shopping you can do in Quiggins either! you can get pierced or tattooed in dermagraffiti on the 4th floor, & have a cup or tea or food in the Brook cafe on the 2nd floor.

Some featured shops you may enjoy in Quiggins include:

Bad ass Boutique, on the 2nd floor at the top of the stairwell. Selling cyber, lolita & street wear.

Grin at the far back of the ground floor, selling streetwear, gothic, emo & punk clothing, alongside accessories from over the top tights to bags.

Morganas lair, on the 2nd floor just before the Brook cafe. Selling Gothic clothing from corsets to pvc skirts to velvet dresses to lolita inspired skirts.
Resurrection, first floor just before Grin. Selling retro clothing from fluffy coats to t-shirts to jeans to dresses.
There are obviously alot more shops in Quiggins, you can find full listings of current shops on their website: quiggins.com
Quiggins is unfortunately under threat of closure whilst the city tries to renovate it's 'cultural quarter', obviously they haven't taken the fact that Quiggins caters for alternative culture into consideration here. You can help by visiting Quiggins campaign page.
Quiggins is open everyday from 10am - 5:30pm & the Brook cafe is open everyday from 10am - 5pm for food & is also open wednesday to saturday from 5pm - late for drinks & various events.
Other Shops in liverpool catering for alternative fashion & culture include

Bad ass boutique, Bold street
The new location for another shop selling different stock to the Quiggins store. From street wear to emo to band merch. Alot more stock can be found here too.
Probe records, Slater street.
An alternative music store, stocking pretty much everything you can think of (well within reason ;)).
The egg, Newington road.
An attic vegan cafe open during the day but at nightime it becomes eggspace & hosts exhibtions and alternative art shows.
There are of course plenty of other shops in Liverpool but these are the few remaining shops left so don't forget to visit them!
You can find images in the gallery section from around Quiggins & these shops.
